An early draft of an internal report on NIST's plans for transitioning to quantum-safe cryptographic algorithms has been released for public comment.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology report outlines a proposed approach for transitioning from quantum-vulnerable cryptographic algorithms to post-quantum digital signature algorithms and key establishment schemes.

The report identifies today's quantum-vulnerable cryptographic standards and current standards for quantum-resistant algorithms that will be used in the transition. The report is intended to assist federal agencies, industry, and standards organizations in transitioning information and communications technology products, services, and infrastructure to post-quantum cryptography.

Comments on the draft report, which can be submitted until January 10, 2025, will be used to revise the transition plan and will be incorporated into other guidance for the transition of specific algorithms and applications to sub-quantum cryptography.
