The gaps and solutions that organisations need to prevent the misuse of sensitive data and protect their digital assets were highlighted at the first Data Security Day.

The first Data Security Day took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The event was organised by Utimaco and CREAPLUS. Around 70 representatives from large and medium-sized Slovenian companies and institutions from critical sectors and public administration attended the event, which the organisers hope will become a traditional gathering of decision-makers and experts in information and cyber security.

Protection of sensitive databases, digital transactions, data in industrial IoT systems and critical infrastructure products, as well as data security in artificial intelligence systems were the focus of Data Security Day 2024. Attendees learned from organisations such as NLB, Iskraemeco, Cetis, Športna loterija and Zavod za zdravstveno zavarovanje Slovenije about best practices in data security management, data encryption and encryption key management with Hardware Security Modules (HSMs).

Also part of the event was a roundtable discussion on the challenges in the implementation of strong cryptographic protection as a cornerstone of modern data security. The panellists shared their practical experience of managing risk, as well as organising and implementing data encryption using HSMs. These are approaches that several thousand organisations in Slovenia will have to implement in order to comply with the NIS2 and DORA directives and the new national Information Security Act.
