The Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the Protection of Classified Information in cooperation with the Jožef Stefan Institute, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana and the companies Beyond Semiconductor d.o.o. and CREAPLUS d.o.o. organized the workshop "Cryptography beyond the horizon of yesterday and cryptography of tomorrow. A Quantum Signpost".

At the Quantum Signpost, which took place in the framework of the SiQUID project for the development and implementation of quantum key distribution, Dr. Nastja Cepak, Cryptography Team Leader at CREAPLUS, presented the state of the art in the cryptography industry, with a focus on progress in post-quantum cryptography standards.

Slovenia is one of the 26 EU member states participating with their national projects in the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) initiative, which aims to develop new and more secure forms of critical data transmission, thus ensuring the medium- and long-term security of the EU's national information and communication systems and data, smart energy grids, air traffic control, banks, healthcare institutions and other critical communication infrastructures.

In the European Union, the 2016 Quantum Manifesto set a milestone for the development of technologies such as quantum computers, sensors, simulators and communications. The EU plans to spend €1 billion on the development of quantum technologies between 2018 and 2028.
