CREAPLUS will present the use of hybrid digital certificates to simplify the transition to post-quantum cryptography at the 26th Modern Information Technologies and Services Conference OTS 2023.

CREAPLUS cryptographic solutions experts PhD Nastja Cepak and Jakob Matek will present the latest developments and standards in post-quantum cryptography at the 26th Modern Information Technologies and Services Conference, organised by the Institute of Informatics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Maribor, on 6 and 7 September 2023.

The development of quantum computers predicts that a breakthrough in cryptographic data protection and digital trust can be expected in the coming years. CREAPLUS is therefore already monitoring the development of post-quantum cryptography and the standardization of new quantum-secure cryptographic algorithms. They are aware that changing the mindset and way of working required by quantum computers and algorithms in the field of security is time-consuming and challenging. This is because it requires a completely different approach to processing and computation from that of classical computers and algorithms.

The lecture will be particularly interesting as the two experts will demonstrate a use case of hybrid digital certificates. They will explain one of the key challenges of the transition to post-quantum cryptography, namely the replacement of cryptographic algorithms, where organisations will be looking for solutions that are as simple as possible. CREAPLUS, a leading provider of cryptographic solutions, estimates that the use of hybrid digital certificates will be one of the most commonly used methods to make this transition.

PhD Nastja Cepak and Jakob Matek will present the incorporation of an additional private key into the x509 digital certificate step-by-step and with certain code snippets. This is because x509 can be represented in future applications as a post-quantum digital certificate, while still retaining the format and algorithm recognised by all traditional applications.
